Murray Hill

Landmarks

Murray Hill is a neighborhood that tends to be favored by young professionals and sometimes young families, with plenty of pubs, after-work hot spots, and watering holes. Many of the buildings in Murray Hill were constructed in the early 1900s, so there are plenty of classic brownstones making up the area’s real estate options. Murray Hill is home to The New York Public Library and is also close to Bryant Park. This Midtown neighborhood also features good schools, plenty of casual eateries, and nearby neighborhoods include the Flat Iron District and Midtown East.

Transportation

For some of the more eastern areas of Murray Hill, transportation options can get a bit difficult, but there are subway lines serving the neighborhood including the 4,5,6 and 7. It’s also close to Grand Central Station. There are plenty of buses that run on the North-South avenues in the neighborhood, and there are also crosstown buses that will take residents of Murray Hill to popular destinations including the Port Authority Bus Terminal and Pennsylvania Station. The Second Avenue Subway’s first phase also just opened, providing more transport options.

Rent Prices

Despite the overall level of convenience and the charm of many of the buildings found throughout Murray Hill, it boasts relatively reasonable living expenses, and rent is often anywhere from $500 to $1000 lower than nearby neighborhoods. The median rent price in Murray Hill is currently just over $2300. It’s also possible to find quite a few large, three-bedroom options for less than $5000 a month.
