Midtown East

Landmarks

Midtown East is really the neighborhood most people envision when they think if iconic Manhattan. With its location along the East River, Midtown East can also be used to describe several other neighborhoods including Sutton Place and Turtle Bay. You can walk to Grand Central station from Midtown East, and it’s home to the headquarters of the United Nations. This neighborhood is where Rockefeller Center and the Chrysler Building are located, and while it’s an active, busy neighborhood there are also charming cross streets with a more residential look and feel.

Transportation

Since Grand Central is so close, Midtown East is a great Manhattan neighborhood in terms of transportation. Subway options include the 4,5,6 and 7, all to Grand Central. The 7 also runs to Fifth Avenue, and the E and V go to Fifth Ave.-53rd St. Grand Central is also used by commuters coming from places outside New York City including Westchester County and New Haven County. The Port Authority Bus Terminal is also nearby. If you want to travel to the Hamptons, there’s a Hampton Jitney bus stop located at E. 40th St. & 3rd Ave.

Rent Prices

Many of the buildings in Midtown East are doorman buildings with some amenities, and renters can expect to pay just upwards of $2,000 for a studio. For one-bedroom apartments in Midtown East rent may range from around $3,000 to just under $4,000. For 2-bedroom units there tends to be more variance in prices. For example, you might find a non-doorman building with a two-bedroom unit for around $3,000, or for a two-bedroom in a doorman building you could end up paying more than $7,000 a month.
